Man Cave

Caveman_remotecontrol_cIt is Saturday afternoon.

Max is out with some buddies and the other two are here with a friend of Michael’s. At the moment, the three boys are in the Man Cave playing a video game.

From the sounds of it they are having an absolute blast. The cheers, the shouts, and the trash-talking is so loud I can hardly hear myself think.

Thank goodness for the man cave! 🙂

Above and Beyond

I have had an extraordinary day! After a fabulous day of work earlier in the week, I posted a blog called Thrilled and Fulfilled.

Turns out, thrilled and fulfilled was just the beginning!

Great JobI got an e-mail this morning to inform me that one of the participants in my workshop had submitted an ‘Achiever; Above and Beyond’ to recognize my work in his organization. And not only did he take the time to write a beautiful description of how I went above and beyond, he also took the time to forward it to some big names in the organization.

I have spent the day just basking in the glow of being so wonderfully acknowledged. And also celebrating the fact that the work I LOVE is having an impact.

It also reminds me just how important it is to acknowledge those people who have an impact on me. How often do I think that I should make a call, send an e-mail, or send a card and do not get around to it? Today, I have been utterly delighted by a thoughtful individual going above and beyond for me.

And now I can’t wait to do the same the next time someone inspires, delights and moves me! 🙂

My Extraordinary Mom

Just gotta share my latest mom story…

I am in Toronto for two days running workshops and, having been in bed for twelve days, it is a bit of a push.

I Love My MomMy mom phoned me yesterday afternoon because she was cruising around Union Station in Toronto to find the perfect place to pick me up from the train in the morning.

Mom didn’t want me to have to struggle onto the subway with my suitcase and use up all my energy for the day just getting to work. We agreed on a place and mom picked me up this morning and dropped me at work. She took my suitcase home with her and then met me after work with a cup of tea waiting for me in the car. She brought me home to her house where my darling dad was waiting. We just finished a delicious dinner of lentil, tofu and sweet potato and my cozy bed is just waiting for me to fall into.

In the morning, mom is going to take me back downtown and then meet me when I am done to take me back to the train station with my suitcase.

Am I cherished, or what?

Isn’t it extraordinary that at the age of 46, I am still so tenderly and lovingly nurtured by my Mommers?!?!? 🙂

Thanksgiving & Appreciation

Isn’t it funny how we take our bodies for granted? At any moment I can run up the stairs, enjoy a workout, go to the grocery store and keep going for hours at a time without breaking a sweat.

Right now, just getting up the stairs is a marathon that leaves me totally winded.

I have decided that, on this holiday Monday, my health is right up there at the top of the list keeping company with my adorable family who have taken such good care of me these past twelve days.

Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

Dinner of Champions

Red PepperWhile my family has been doing the Saturday thing; hockey, running, working, playing with friends and hanging out, I have been stretched out on the couch watching back-to-back movies and doing my best to recuperate from my bout of pneumonia.

At this moment, Simon is out with the boys for chicken wings and the first period of the Leafs game at our local pub.

And, what, I am thinking to myself, can I scrounge up for my dinner?

Raw CashewsThere is just nothing that I love more than a crisp, cold red pepper and, fortunately for me, I made a batch of Cashew Cheese last week before I got sick. Cashew Cheese is one of the yummiest raw snacks I have discovered in the past few years. It is savoury, creamy and just downright delicious with any cracker or crunchy veggie. And so, between the red pepper and the Cashew Cheese, I have found the perfect dinner.

As I settle in to enjoy yet another movie, I am compelled to share my recipe. Don’t forget to soak your raw cashews for at least three hours before whipping together this yummy snack.

Enjoy! 🙂

Cashew Cheese

– 190 grams (1 1/2 cups) raw cashew nuts (not roasted or salted)
– 60 ml (1/4 cup) water
– 2 tablespoons dry white wine (optional; substitute water if preferred)
– 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
– 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast (optional)
– 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
– 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
– freshly ground pepper

Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

Place the nuts in a salad bowl, cover with fresh water, and let stand for 3 hours.

Drain the nuts and place them in the bowl of a food processor or blender. Add 60 ml (1/4 cup) water and the rest of the ingredients, and mix until thoroughly puréed, stopping to scrape the sides of the bowl every once in a while. Add a little more water if necessary and blend again to adjust the consistency; the cheese will get a little more solid as it sets.

Transfer to a bowl, cover and refrigerate.

Thanksgiving Weekend

October ColourI absolutely love this time of year; leaves changing, crisp air, beautiful orange pumpkins, rich squash and fresh crunchy apples.

Not to mention my favourite holiday of the year…Thanksgiving.

As much as I love Christmas, Thanksgiving has always been my favourite holiday. All the family, all the food, all the fun and none of the crazy lead-up to one day.

Yipee! Happy Friday! 🙂

Divine Timing

UnwellWhen I awakened yesterday morning I didn’t feel better. In fact, if I allowed myself to really admit it, I was feeling worse. My lungs burned as if I had been running a marathon outside in minus 20 degree Celsius weather and walking up a flight of stairs left me feeling completely winded. My body was aching from head to toe and I was extremely low energy. And if I tried to do too much (like making smoothies for the kids) I got sweaty and shaky.

All I could think was…whose body is this?

I felt even worse this morning so I decided it was time to make a call to the doctor. I am not what you would call a regular patient. I visit my naturopath, chiropractor and energy healer on a regular basis but my doctor sees very little of me. Therefore, a call to the doctor is of great significance.

Divine TimingThe long and the short is that I have pneumonia. I have started a 10-day course of Biaxin and I am to be in bed for a week.

Here’s where the Divine Timing comes in… I have absolutely nothing on my calendar this week except one coaching call tomorrow.

Last week was jam-packed and next week is completely full of coaching and workshops.

It is as if the Universe perfectly orchestrated this week just for me. And, put a long weekend at the end just for good measure.

Isn’t that extraordinary?!?Out Sick
